Our customer – famous Ukrainian tourist company asked us to develop special
desktop software for instant downloading of news and forum posts that
were added to www.tourbusiness.ua site.
This application was realized
as a windows service, its icon is visible in try section of Start panel.
As soon as a new event happened, a popup window that showed subtract of
information rose on a client’s PC.
Additional demand was to realize a
functionality that allowed spreading a tourist magazine in internet
(the company also publishes a tourist magazine for Ukrainian consumers).

The additional requirements were user-friendly and colorful, bright interface, light-weight and customizable software design were very desirable.
We created an entirely new solution that could give a benefit the customer and met his needs in the best possible way. Being a desktop application, it united traditional desktop experience with the immediacy of the Internet to give its users a new way of access to information.

Another important feature included a possibility to buy a license and download tourist magazines. We discussed precisely with a customer all the details of security implementation. First of all application had to allow authorized uses to access new magazines, secondly it had to decrypt by public key previously encrypted PDF file of magazine in order to prevent the content of magazines being copied or embedded on other sites.
The key system features are following:
- Ability to download magazines on the base of bought license;
- Ability to show latest tourism news, forum posts, commercial articles;
- Encrypting and security mechanisms for spreading magazines;
- Ability to publish banners;
- Statistics of usage.

Technologies and tools that were used: .Net Framework 2.0, C#, Windows Forms, XML, MS Project, RUP.

Difficulties of the project.
Once we started, everything flowed smoothly. But... We thought much how to name this software. Because it is very
important to have a loud and teasing name and implement it in code. This software had to familiarize
users with events that took place in Ukrainian tourist business. So firstly we called it "Informer".
but this is a name of a person who looks over other people and tells their mistakes to the police. Then,
we changed it into "Agent". But it also close to FBI or KGB and can evoke unpleasant associations. So...
(among us) we call this software "Software of Ukrainian Tourism" In fact, we haven’t taken a final decision.
